As all of you know, there has been a problem with entries being re-broadcast to the net from Hawaii. The problem has been caused by a Bitnet connection running the UREP software from Penn State. Somehow, stuff that comes in from the Bitnet side gets delivered to the recipient and then re-broadcast to the net at large. The machine is not the main one for the University of Hawaii mail saystem. But, it's the main Computer Center machine. I filter all outgoing Internet mail from here and I *thought* I had the problem resolved. During the last several days, I believe I intercepted about 90% of the stuff going out. Basically, I got the messages sent to the list, but the various ``Cc"'s were still being sent back. Since we have not been able to solve the problem otherwise, we have physically disconnected the machine in question from Bitnet. It will remain so until the problem can be fully resolved and we are certain it will not recur. I apologize for the problems this has caused all of you. In retrospect, I should have severed the Bitnet connection sooner instead of trying to make a temporary ``90% patch". Sorry for the inconvenience. The only thing I can do now is to assure that it doesn't recur. ---Torben Postmaster@Hawaii.Edu
