[comp.windows.x] failing to talk to xstuff

RWS@ZERMATT.LCS.MIT.EDU (Robert Scheifler) (12/31/87)

A fair number of people aren't getting replies to xstuff. Typically
this is because they come from usenet land, and their mailers supply
unusable return addresses. I don't have the time to deal with such
failed mail, I just ignore it. If you are in this boat, you can try
making the body of your message to xstuff a line of the form

path <reply-address>

where <reply-address> is something you think will work from arpanet
land. If you don't know of one, you can send me a piece of mail and I
can try to guess one based on headers in your message.

Some other sites apparently can't even connect to apx.lcs.mit.edu
because of tcp hop count problems in the apollo system running there.
Within a month or so, xstuff will be moving to a new service machine;
the problem probably won't get fixed until then.
