[comp.windows.x] X release based on SVR3.xx?

jk@apple.UUCP (John Kullmann) (01/08/88)

Pardon me if this has already been answered but I don't read
this group religiously and I am asking this for a friend who
is not on the net.

Is there an "official" X release coming out of MIT or anywhere based on
SVR3 as opposed to BSD, i.e. stream based vs socket based?

please email if you have a definitive answer and thanks.

At least as of today, V11R2 will not contain full SVR3 support.
However, thanks to Hewlett Packard, all of the MIT sources (including
xterm) now happily compile and run under HP-UX, which is System V based.
Since we don't have any "pristine" System V machines around to check
against, this doesn't guarantee things will compile in other
environments, but it is a good start. If someone would like to
contribute stream-based IPC code, we would be happy to take it.
