The problem of trying to compile the X system on machines such as
the Intel 8086/80286, which have 16-bit ints and 32-bit pointers, has
been discussed before in this newsgroup. A client has asked me to
investigate the availability of solutions to this problem. Specifically,
he wants answers to the following questions:
(1) Has anyone contributed changes to the X consortium which solve
this problem, so that they would be available in the February
release?
(2) Assuming the answer to the first question is "no," of the
companies that have ported X11 or parts of it to 16-bit
architectures (I seem to remember a CAD company doing this),
are any interested making the sources commercially available?
(3) Is anyone working on or selling a version of X11 available for
any 8086- or 286-based version of Xenix?
