linton@LURCH.STANFORD.EDU (Mark Linton) (02/06/88)
It is unfortunate that someone 50 miles away from me sends a message 3000 miles to a mailing list that I am not on (someone forwarded it to me) when the NOTES file in X11R1/contrib/InterViews explicitly contains my address. InterViews works fine for us (no surprise), and if anyone has any problems I can help. The version of InterViews that went out on the R1 tape did have some problems on X11 (I used a beta-3 server to do the port, among other difficulties). Since that release, I have started using X11 regularly and InterViews now works fine on X11 (as well as continuing to work on X10). We have also added a set of classes to manage structured text and a few other new features. I intend to make this new verson of InterViews available on the R2 contrib tape. You can also obtain it now from lurch.stanford.edu via anonymous ftp (including binaries). In ftp, cd to "InterViews" and get the compressed tar files. We use release 1.2 of C++ from AT&T. We fixed one small bug on the Suns where the translator dereferences a null pointer. I can send you the fix for that if you haven't already discovered it. I'm surprised about the problems you mention making InterViews; many other people have been able to install InterViews without much trouble. We often use symbolic links because we have four sets of binaries (Sun and VAX each for X10 and X11) and only want one source tree. Let me know more specifically what you difficulties you are having. In general, if anyone has any questions or problems with InterViews, please send them to me. Mark
