[comp.windows.x] Programming ref manual by Adrian Nye

jkh@ardent.UUCP (Jordan K. Hubbard) (02/10/88)

I don't know Adrian's address, so...

1. The entry for XDeleteContext seems to be missing from its proper place.

2. It would be nice if the original grouping of subjects [in the Xlib ref
document by Jim Gettys] was available somehow, perhaps through an index
of some sort. The alphabetical nature of Adrian's document makes it
easy to find a routine quickly (unless you're looking for resource
manager routines :-), but it doesn't help the poor fool who wants to
do something but isn't exactly sure what routine will do the job.
In cases like these, it's nice to be able to look under "graphics routines"
or "fonts and text drawing" (for example) and get pointed to something
that may do the job.

For those interested in making a measly sum of money, in the tradition
of the C and vi "cliff note" posters, a foldout of commonly referenced
facts might be nice. The member names in the XCGValues, XWindowAttributes
and XSetWindowAttributes structures (and their corresponding value masks)
come to mind as immediately useful items to put on such a foldout.
I'm sure a creative person could come up with a lot more.
