Kernel paging is a big win. We have it here under V7 -- Ron Gomes of BNR (now of HCR) wrote it. Its use is universal here among the folks who know enough to cope with it. (Our current version has some rough edges, so we don't give the new customers paging as their default yet.) All you folks running 4.xBSD may have a problem, though. Last summer at Usenix several of us mentioned the notion to Bill Joy. His reply was, essentially, "Why bother? With things like the Sun workstation around, we no longer care much about supporting RS232 terminals." Now, maybe Bill was overstating to make a point. And quite possibly some of the other folks involved feel otherwise. Or I may even be remembering it wrongly, although there were several other witnesses. But if not, then maybe you 4.xBSD customers better do some politicking if you want paging in the terminal driver.
