[comp.windows.x] XSERIAL mailing list moved to EXPO

xserial-request@expo.lcs.mit.edu (02/25/88)

The XSERIAL mailing list (for discussing X servers that use serial lines as
their primary communications channel) has been moved from wyse.com to
the MIT X Consortium server machine EXPO. The old address will forward
for a while until people get used to the new address.

As with all lists originating from EXPO, you can join XSERIAL by creating a
local redistribution alias and sending a message to

		xserial-request@expo.lcs.mit.edu

with the format described at the bottom of this message. Individual
subscriptions are discouraged so that only one copy of a given message need
be sent to any organization (i.e. university, entire company, etc.).

        ----------------------------------------------------------------

To subscribe to an X mailing list, please do the following:

    1. Ask around your organization to see if there is already a local
redistribution. If there is, all you have to do is get on the
	list locally.

    2. If there isn't a local redistribution for the list, set one up and
send mail to the appropriate topic-request list with the internet
domain style address for your redistribution.

The goal: to send just one copy of each piece of mail to a given
	company or university.

    3. Mail sent to a topic-request address should have the first word of
the subject line be TOPIC, in caps, so that it can be distinguished.
For example, mail sent to xserial-request should have XSERIAL be the
first word, and mail sent to lists-request should have LISTS be the
first word. Make sure that the return address to be used is
EXPLICITLY given in the body of the message.

For example,

	% mail xserial-request@expo.lcs.mit.edu
	Subject: XSERIAL addition request

Please add the following address to the xserial mailing list
	for the International Widget Company:

		xserial-local%mumble.widget.com@relay.cs.net
	^D

Case does not matter in mailing list names, although they are stored in
lowercase to make sorting and generating catalogues easier.

UUCP sites that don't have registered domains should give a path relative to
some Internet host (the default will be eddie.mit.edu since it can handle
host!user@eddie.mit.edu or user%host.uucp@eddie.mit.edu).
