[comp.windows.x] "X window system, Version 11"

richard@aiva.ed.ac.uk (Richard Tobin) (03/16/88)

Why is MIT (or maybe the X consortium) so concerned that we don't refer
to "X windows" (and various other names)? Never before have I seen a manual
page with a whole section devoted to the Official Names of the program.
What's the idea? The lack of any explanation is not calculated to engender
co-operation.

[Actually, Edinburgh University is similarly peculiar. You mustn't refer
to it as Edinburgh University (oh no! I screwed up...) but as The University
of Edinburgh. Say, that gives me an idea: suppose I set up a firm called
Edinburgh University and start selling a system called X windows, no-one
could accuse me of misrepresentation :-)]
