#N:uicsovax:4300009:000:794 uicsovax!pat Dec 30 18:04:00 1982 Is there a notesfile (or news group) for Unix Graphics ? We use Turner Whitted's "Raster Test Bed" tools & would like to exchange ideas, tools, toys, images, bad-grafix, etc. . We also (try to ) use Brown's Simple Graphics package & would like to meet hackers in same mess . Maybe we should have a BOF (Birds Of a Feather) meeting at Unix conf. ? +++----------------------------------+++ |||+--------------------------------+||| ||||++----------------------------++|||| |||||+----------------------------+||||| |||||| C.U. at Winter Unicom 1983 |||||| |||||+----------------------------+||||| ||||++----------------------------++|||| |||+--------------------------------+||| +++----------------------------------++| Pat Kane, U of I Comput'n Service Office, Urbana, IL

Computer graphics is a very popular subject out there in the world, and deserves to have its oun news group. Anyone else for net.graphics ???

I agree to net.graphics and net.newprod or new products could just announced in the group they most fit. Either way I for 1 would like to hear about new things. Jack Allen Southern Bell ...!ll1!sb1!jca

There was some discussion about new product announcements a few months ago, and the general feeling in the net was that people wanted to see them. The important considerations seemed to be They should be easy to shut off (e.g. a separate newsgroup) They should not be repetitive (1 copy per product) They should be things of interest to the community (e.g. we'd like to hear about the new Framus 68K UNIX workstation, but not about Glade air freshener or OS/360 JCL enhancements). The suggested newsgroup at that time was net.ad (as in advertisement). That group died and I can't remember why - I think people preferred to see them in their appropriate subject newsgroup (net.jobs, net.wanted, net.micro, etc.) There hasn't really been any traffic like this. As for net.graphics, it's an obvious one. Assuming there's lots of interest and something to talk about, great. Mark Horton
