I am running X11R2 and uwm on a Sun 3/50 under Sun OS 3.5. Consider this line. xterm -geometry 80x40++10++10 -name " this and that " It creates an 80 by 40 xterm 10 from the left and 10 from the top. The name that appears on the uwm icon is " this and that ". As expected. Now consider the following line. xterm -geometry 80x40++10++10 -name " this.that " Why does uwm ignore the "-geometry 80x40++10++10"? It asks me to place the window and when I do, it is only 80x24 not the requested 80x40. The distinction for those of you who missed it is the '.' in the -name string. The icon name however DOES end up being " this.that ". Stranger still is the line... xterm -geometry 80x40++10++10 -name " this.that " -e csh This time the geometry is ignored again by the '.' in -name and then the name is ignored by the '-e csh' and the name comes out 'csh' It seems that the -e arg caused whatever you're executing to become the name of the icon and the -name arg causes geometry to be ignored (only when there is a '.' in the name...). Is this xterm's fault? uwm? X11R2? mine? RTFM? What? Any insight from the X.gods will be appreciated. -Steve Zellers, (zellers@sun.soe.clarkson.edu) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "Getting an education at Clarkson University is like having $500.00 shoved up your ass, a nickel at a time." -Dean Dirian
