Does anyone have any info or opinions on the Bell Technologies BLIT card, which is available from them either separately or in their 16 MHz 386 machine? This card has on onboard video processor and 1 Meg. of memory, giving 1660 X 1200 pixel monochrome or 640 X 480 X 8-bit color. Drivers and software for X10R4 running under Bell's version of 386 UNIX 5.3 now, with Xenix support and X11R2 in the works. The card (plus software, I think) is $995; about $1500 with a color monitor (but they said a Multisync will work), and about $2500 with a monochrome monitor (same one Sun uses, they said). For software developers, they offer two developers packages (deal good until the end of April): the 'A' package: BLIT card Monochrome monitor --------- $995 the 'B' package: Complete 'Next Step' Workstation consisting of: Bell Tech. 16MHz 386 AT-compat computer 2 serial, 1 parallel port 1.5 Meg. floppy 4 Meg. of 32-bit memory 130 Meg. RLL Hard Drive AT-style enhanced keyboard BLIT card Monochrome monitor Hercules graphics card (seems the blit card can't be used to boot the system) Monitor for Herc card Logitech mouse Bell's 386 UNIX 5.3 (Stream, RFS, etc) complete developent system ---------- $4995 Hey, I'm no fool! I was about the buy a 386 machine anyway. I ordered the 'B' package (love them 'B' burgers!). I'll post my impressions when the system comes in and I play with it a while. -- Michael Kent mike@medman.UUCP Personalized Programming, Inc.
