For those people interested in displaying color images on color and monochrome displays, code and sample images are now available. This may also answer some basic questions on how to allocate colormaps for those starting out. The primary function of this program is to display pixmaps up to 8-bit (256 colors) deep, on both color and b/w displays using X11R2. The images have a header in my particular format which is relatively easy to understand. Please look at the README file first. The code has been tested on a variety of Vax and ibm/rt compilers. Sorry, there is no formal documentation yet. Xim and sample images are available via anonymous ftp on: m9-520-1.mit.edu (18.80.0.45) in the pub directory. Philip R.
