We've been running X.V11R2 on our Sun 3/50 workstations for quite a while. Most things are working just fine and we (those of us who use it) really enjoy it. We have one problem with it, however. After opening and closing lots of windows the server seems to get into a strange state where it won't allow another window to be opened. When this happens you have to close a window you already have open in order to open another one. After still longer you find you have to close 2 windows in order to open 1. This continues and after a while you find you're working with about 5 or so windows and can't open anymore without closing 2! In other words, the server seems to lose track of information dealing with windows such that it handles a decreasing number of windows. If you simply restart the server, you can once again open lots of windows. If you open new windows all of the time, this usually takes just a few hours to start happening. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a fix for it? It seems strange that noone has sent a message to this newsgroup about this problem if, indeed, it's a common Sun server bug. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard A.
