...In last week's episode, Mike's Bell Technologies Next Step Workstation, featuring X10R4 driving a 1660x1200-pixel monochrome display arrived, but without the operating system (Bell Tech./Interactive UNIX V.3)... !!FLASH!! I called Bell Tech., and they said, "OOPS, our mistake. We are backordered on the programmers manuals, but we should have gone ahead and sent you the OS disks. We'll send them FedEX." They did. Got them yesterday. Spend all night installing UNIX, installing X10R4, playing with X. Had to tear myself away from that gorgeous display and into bed. Initial Impression Time: It's wonderful. But it IS still beta; I got a couple of panics while making novice-type mistakes. More in-depth impressions and info will follow (when I learn how to use the thing.) So now I'm looking for sources to PD X10R4 software. Particularly a good mail reader (or mods to use Elm 1.7 under X10R4), and a net news reader (is there an 'xrn' or such). Plus, of course, any games you might have handy (damn it, they didn't send xtrek.) Stay Tuned... -- Michael Kent INTERNET: mike@medman.UUCP Personalized Programming, Inc.
