[comp.windows.x] Address for bug fixes?

hill@nicmad.UUCP (Ray Hill) (05/31/88)

What's the correct mail path to get to "expo" from the UUCP domain?

Since there is not any map entry available for "expo.lcs.mit.edu". (there isn't
even an entry for the ".lcs.mit.edu" domain) I assumed that "mit-eddie" would
be able to find "expo". I was wrong.

This is the address I sent my request for bug fixes to:
	"uwvax!ll-xn!mit-eddie!expo!xstuff"

This is what I got back:

What is the correct mail address to use to get X11.2 bug patches?

That depends on your mailer. Many sites have configured their mailers to
accept standard Internet addressing. Others simply forward all addresses of
the format user@host.subdomain...domain to an Internet host that knows how to
cope.

That is because you gave it the wrong name. The name "expo" is just an
abbreviation for expo.lcs.mit.edu. Because it isn't in the same domain as
eddie.mit.edu (the Internet name for mit-eddie), the address
...!mit-eddie!expo!user did not make any sense to eddie's mailer.

Try uwvax!ll-xn!mit-eddie!expo.lcs.mit.edu!xstuff instead.
