[net.news] A visual news program

ka (02/02/83)

Are you	developing eyestrain trying to read news items as they
scroll up the screen? Do you feel that	the two	keystrokes re-
quired to enter	the 'n'	command	is (at least) one keystroke too
many? If the answer to	either of these	questions is yes, then
vnews may be for you.

Seriously, I have written a visual readnews program a la vicmd or
other visual shells. It is not	ready to be released--in particu-
lar it only runs on HP 2621 terminals under System 3 and 5 at
present. Conversion to	curses should be easy but curses is
copywrited. If	you are	interested in working on it and/or using
it as is, let me know.

Additional features:
- Improved (at least changed) reply and	followup commands.
- Displays current time	and informs you	of mail.
- Strips off long prefixes on author names and deletes notesfile
  headers.
- Designed to be useful	on low speed terminals.
