[comp.windows.x] second posting of awm

jkh@ardent.UUCP (Jordan Hubbard) (06/16/88)

About 3 weeks ago I posted the first version of the Ardent Window Manager
(awm) to comp.windows.x. Several parts didn't make it, and even if they
had, would not have worked very well due to a misunderstanding on my part
that left out the menus/ and bitmap/ subdirectories. The intervening 3
weeks have given me the opportunity to work out a lot more bugs and even
update the man page significantly (for which I owe Bill Wohler significant
thanks). So, though the resulting delay confused quite a few people, it
was worth the wait. Here's the second posting of awm, version 1.1, in
the form of a 17 part shar kit. By the time you get this, there will also
be compressed tar files on ucbvax.berkeley.edu and decwrl.dec.com, for
anonymous ftp. I encourage anyone else with disk space to make it available
by whatever means.

I'll be sending out patches and enhancements (quite a few arrive each day)
about once every week or so, depending on how many I get and how long
it takes to adequately test them. Starting with this version, I'll also be
updating the version numbers on the files affected by each patch, so it
will be a lot easier to track bugs and patches than it has been in the
past.

As I said before, the current menu package should be considered "permanantly
temporary" since it has known bugs but I haven't had time to update it yet.
The people at RTL can't be blamed since they've had an updated version of
this menu package for quite some time. If you want to know why I haven't
updated to it and/or what I need in a menu package, read the file
MENUS contained in this release. Perhaps you can help (all free help
graciously accepted.. :-)..

Again, many thanks to those who helped (and are helping) out with awm.
As a fortune cookie I once got said: "You are almost there."
