[[ Yes I am asking for help again. I know, pathetic isn't it.]] I have just completed a basic port to a colour workstation (its an Orion 1/05 4.2 BSD based on a FairChild clipper). I've added in a mode whereby I can run X11 under its own window system, StarPoint, by grabbing a bitmap and telling X to scribble in it and also telling StarPoint to use it as a window. StarPoint runs the graphics hardware in a mode whereby the screen is really 8 bitmaps with the pixel values for the screen found by combining the same bit from each bitmap. This is why I don't grab a colour bitmap. The problem is that bitmap changes are only copied to the screen when a special routine is called. So how do you arrange it that mfb will call this magic cookie after the update is done? Preferably with a ``maximum area effected'' rectangle setup. I must be frank in that no matter how cute StarPoint is, and it is pretty cute, I will normally be running X11 all by itself. So my current update mechanism is a total hack and is grossly slow. But this is the kind of problem that others must have encountered so I was hoping for some pointer?
