[comp.windows.x] emacs/X11/uvax-2000

alex@umbc3.UMD.EDU (Alex S. Crain) (07/25/88)

I'm trying to build emacs 18.51 to work with X11 on a Microvax
2000 (qvss display). It builds ok, except that X11term.h tries to include
<X11/X10.h> which doesn't exist. I commented this out and emacs compile &
dumps ok.

When I run xemacs, it opens a window and builds the screen, but I
don't get a cursor, and it won't respond to keyboard input at all. I'm going
to try rebuilding from scratch, but the I think that the distribution is
clean.

Has anyone done this/seen this before? I'm running X11R2.

The file X10.h can be found in X11R2/lib/oldX/X10.h, you should
install it in your /usr/include/X11 directory.

There are some patches available for GNU Emacs 18.51 that cleans up
the X11 interface. The patches are approx 36K and were mostly written
by Dana Chee <dana@bellcore.com> and were tested by the recipients of
the emacs-11@bloom-beacon.mit.edu mailing list. [Alex, I will be
mailing you a copy of these patches (as a separate message to save the
xpert list some bandwidth).]

While I do not run X11R2 & emacs on a Microvax 2000, I am fairly
certain that someone on the emacs-11 list does or has so I am
cross-posting this message to that list. Maybe someone there can help
you.

If you wish to join the emacs-11 mailing list, send your request to
emacs-11-request@bloom-beacon.mit.edu. This list has been rather quite
since the last set of patches were distributed. [Volunteers to
implement support for the iconGeometry resource welcome.]

The emacs-11 list is probably more able to answer your question about
emacs and X11 interactions.

Enjoy!
