[comp.windows.x] defining and displaying symbols in X11R2

Chi-Ming.Yang@CIVE.RI.CMU.EDU (08/04/88)

I am trying to define some symbols (icons) in my X11 based program. Are
there any convenient utilities in Xlib which can facilitate the creation and
displaying of those images (pixmaps?) in my created windows (widgets)? Your
comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Well, you could use the bitmap(1) program which comes with X, but if are
trying to do anything seriously artistic, you'll probably want something
better than that. You could use MacPaint or some decent package on another
computer and then use the PBM (portable bitmap package) to convert between
MacPaint format and X11 bitmap format.
