    Indeed, some changes in the wm / client communication conventions will be winding
    their way through the approval process.  Most notable is the disappearance of 
    x, y, width and height from WM_NORMAL_HINTS.  Instead, window managers will
    use the size and position of the window when it was created, and will use the
    information from (redirected) ConfigureWindow's.

The "will"s in the last sentences are not quite accurate.  There are new
conventions winding their way through the Consortium, but there is at
present no guarantee that the particular change Ellis sited will be
approved.
