This article is for those poor souls who are trying to run X11R2 on a DEC VS100. The recently contributed "vs100.tar" on expo is a good start but it contains many bugs and limitations. This ddx code will allow you to bring up X11 and do simple things. You will find that icons and most other bitmaps larger than 16x16 are broken. This is because all bitmaps are being treated as halftones and the halftone function of the vs100 does not seem to handle large bitmaps correctly. I have added the necessary code to handle bitmaps and have fixed several other problems. I will continue to hack at this for as long as I have my vs100 and I will make patches available sometime during the next few weeks. I can even have large bitmap backgrounds working now. I am interested if anyone else is running X11 on a vs100. -Thomas Clodfelter @ JPL tomc@devvax.jpl.nasa.gov
