If by now you've used mkpath (from net.sources) to create a mail paths list for nmail (localized for your system), you might like to try the following: ( sed "s/[^!]//g" | sort | uniq -c ) </usr/lib/PATHS The result is a rough idea of how far away the world is from you, as a count of machines and number of hops required (one "!" per hop). Here's the result on this system, for example: 10 ! 23 !! 33 !!! 60 !!!! 75 !!!!! 106 !!!!!! 46 !!!!!!! 70 !!!!!!!! 32 !!!!!!!!! 10 !!!!!!!!!! 5 !!!!!!!!!!! 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!

The results from this mkpath output indicate that people really should not use mkpath, but rather use Steve Bellovin's program and data, which produces far more optimal path. Better yet: START SWITCHING TO INTERNET PEOPLE!!!! WHAT IS HOLDING YOU BACK????? Here's my run of the ! counter in the path list 3 27 ! 250 !! 741 !!! 241 !!!! 62 !!!!! 20 !!!!!! 7 !!!!!!!
