[comp.windows.x] X11 Sun 3/110 server and Awm

angus@lfcs.ed.ac.uk (Angus Duggan) (09/02/88)

I hope this subject hasn't been flogged to death, I've only just re-subscribed
to comp.windows.x. I have been having problems trying to use X11 on a sun
3/110 running SunOS 3.2, with a cg4 display:

	1) I haven't been able to consistently get the "adjacentscreens" effect
which the XSun manual page says should happen - if I don't specify a device
with either XDEVICE or -dev, I get an error message which says something like
'connection #3 to server broken'. On the occasions when I have managed to get
the effect, I have found that the window manager (awm) only works on one
screen - do I need to start separate window managers for each screen?

	2) If I start the server up using -dev /dev/bwtwo0, there is a band
at the top of the screen which is unusable - it looks like the wrong screen
is overlayed.

	3) If I start the server with -dev /dev/cgfour0 it is almost unusably
slow - are there any patches to make it faster (usable)?

	4) The -fp (font-path) flag does not accept a font path - it only
takes one directory. The fix should be easy - cut the relevant part out of
.../clients/xset/xset.c, and put it into .../server/os/4.2bsd/filenames.c.

	5) Awm messes up some icon bitmaps on the /dev/cgfour0 server.

	6) Awm walking menus don't redraw properly on either /dev/bwtwo0 or
/dev/cgfour0 when going back up the menu hierarchy.

	7) Awm doesn't appear to be executing the startup file specified by
-e.

All help, suggestions appreciated!
