Recently, we've been having problems starting up X11 on some of our Sun3/60s with color displays. The problem is that the server will come up with only the color screen, instead of in zaphod mode (two virtual screens, one mono, one color, which you switch between by sliding the mouse 'off' the left or right edge). If you exit X and restart, it comes up in zaphod mode usually, but will occasionally hang. Occasionally, it will come up correctly in zaphod mode the first time around (which is invariably when I'm trying to show someone the problem:-) The configuration: Sun 3/60 with 8M and a cg4 display, running SunOS3.5, and X11R2 with patches 1-33. We've had this running without trouble on 3/110s(color), 3/50s (mono), 3/60s(mono, grayscale and color), 4/110s(mono and color), 3/260s (cg2 color and mono) before. All the machines (3/60s) have /dev/bwtwo1 and /dev/cgfour0, and the devices are world writable. We used to be able to start up the server just fine earlier, and the only thing we've changed, as far as I can tell, is to increase the memory to 8M. Has anyone else had this problem, and any idea what needs to be done to fix it?
