[net.news] Goldarn Arpanet gateways

mat (04/29/83)

<FLAME ON>
In the course of one day I have seen TWO copies of an 365 line article
(the SAME <insert favorite expletive> article) sent out with a
``failed message -- return to sender'' header. This is a ``service''
provided by some mailing--list Arpa--related system. These garbage
messages are being bounced around on 500 machines at considerable expense
in phone bills and machine time. Nobody wants to read them; I suspect that
most folks don't even want to SEE the damn things. Why are it out there?
Because of a brain--damaged interface between two very different
network systems. ``Return to sender--message failed messages'' shouldn't
be gatewayed BACK from a mailing--list system to a bulletin board system.

Can anyone fix this nuisance?
