[comp.windows.x] Problem with XWindow and SunOS4.0

I have just installed XWindow 11.2 under sunOs4.0 and I have the following
problem while using the "twm" window manager:

I try to open a terminal window from a menu by selecting the "small white" item
in the following menu:

  menu "terminals" {
  "terminals"     f.title
  "small white"   !"xterm =80x24 -display $DISPLAY -fn $XFONT -j -rw -sb -sk&"
  }

but nothing appears on my screen (no error message, no terminal window).
When I run a remote shell on another machine by selecting the "sund" item in the
following menu

  menu "RemoteShells" {
  "RemoteShells"  f.title
  "sund"          !"xhost +cuisund ;rsh cuisund xterm =80x40 -display $DISPLAY&"
  }

the xterm window appears briefly then immediately disappears.
If I take the same xterm sources compiled on sunOs 3.5, it seems to work fine.

Does anybody have an idea on what the problem is and how to solve it ?
ny advice or suggestion is welcome.
