CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE 3RD ANNUAL X TECHNICAL CONFERENCE The 3rd annual Technical Conference on the X Window System will be held January 23-25 at MIT. The conference is sponsored by the MIT X Consortium. The purpose of the conference is to present and discuss leading edge research and development in the X environment from both academia and industry. We expect an emphasis more on "tools" and "base systems" than on specific end-user applications, but there is no fixed "theme" for the conference, and we welcome presentations in all areas of X. Presentations can be anywhere from 10 to 50 minutes; video tape can be included. We are *not* requiring written papers for this conference, although we would like to reproduce slides and other materials in advance for distribution at the conference. In addition to speakers, we would like to have "Birds of a Feather" sessions for general discussion of specific areas of interest to the attendees. If there are specific BOFs you would like to see (or run), let us know. Although we held tutorials at the last conference, there currently are no plans for tutorials at this conference (but we're open to vocal complaints and pointers to people willing to give the tutorials for free). Also, there will no "trade show" attached to this conference. If you would like to make a presentation at the conference, send details to: xconference@expo.lcs.mit.edu or Bob Scheifler Laboratory for Computer Science 545 Technology Square Cambridge, MA 02139 or (FAX) (617) 258-8682 Network mail is preferred. Please include your name, net and postal address, phone number, affiliation, a reasonably detailed outline of what you want to present, what your relationship is to the work (e.g. project manager, principal designer, lead engineer, me-myself-and-I), how much time you need, and what A/V facilities you need. The deadline for submissions is November 24. Receipt will be acknowledged. If you have BOF ideas, please send them ASAP to one of the addresses above. The conference will be free, but registration will be required. Please do *not* send inquiries about registration yet; we'll send out registration info in the near future. (For West Coasters who complained about the temperature at the last conference, we're trying to find a Rent-A-Parka service, and a meteorologist who will promise us nice weather.)
