Display Postscript is very interesting, I am sure most people out there would like to have a reliable piece of code that does Postscript windows above X, that is in the public domain. I know that there are several pieces of code that do some of the features, but as far as a nice system that does it all well and right (that is FREE !), I believe this is nonexistant. If X is going to survive its latest competition, I really think this is one of the most essential and important things for a user to have. Of course, it should be interfaced to xfig (or some type of MacDraw like interface, along with the text editor to mix and match fonts). I can not over emphasize the significance of this work. Another thing that would be nice, is a public domain (Mathematica), to do math equations, etc... The whole point of this argument is based on Richard Stallman's (GNU) project ideas. If you have a real nice powerful tool like X (that is FREE), you need the code to go along with it (that is FREE). I know MIT is working very diligently and hard to maintain its part, but it would be nice if there were some other people who could get together to work on some of these other ideas. Myself included... My attitude is that everything that runs X should be free, if it isn't; then what is the point. I mean, if you have to buy a $500 piece of code to run on top of X, that sucks... and also defeats the whole purpose. It would be a good study in software engineering over network communication, can it be done. Or does everyone have to be in the same city to develop a piece code that is robust (define robust). Just some early morning thoughts (in New Mexico) to start the day. Have a good one...
