[comp.windows.x] Delicate question

mcintyre@turing.cs.rpi.edu (David McIntyre) (10/25/88)

I haven't posted this question for the last couple of weeks hoping
that someone else would ask something similar, because I don't
want to be a pain in the ass to people who are doing good things,
but no one has asked, so here it goes:

We have a number of X projects that are about to be starting
implementation. Because I was one of the first people at RPI to
start using X, people frequently ask me question. The one everyone
wants the answer to is:

Should I start the project using release 2 widget sets, or
should I wait for release 3, which is supposed to contain
	much nicer widget sets?

I have seen mention of the new widget sets, but I don't know how
long it is until release 3.

Can someone give me an off the record, rough estimate of release 3's
expected date?

				Thanks,
				   Dave

RSN, but by all means get started with the R2 widgets. Updating your
applications will take much less time than you'll spend experimenting
with ideas and finding the appropriate ways to use what's there.

As an aside, when R3 initially ships, the two larger widget sets from HP
and Sony will still be using the R2 Intrinsics (a bugfixed copy of which
will be in contrib/Xhp). They wanted more time to do QA, etc. We are
promised that updated versions will be available soon but we can't delay
the rest of R3...
