PS: If I add PointerMotionMask to the event mask, it works fine.
Right. PointerMotionHintMask does not stand by itself, it is a
*modifier* for the other motion mask bits. You are *supposed* to also
select for PointerMotionMask or some other Motion mask. (Others have
been confused by this as well, I guess the doc is less than clear.)
