My company is currently concentrating on testing of our X products. We have a fairly complex product, and are interested in being able to easily create test suites and repeat error sequences. We would like to minimize the redundancy of manual repetition of this task, and are looking for an automated mechanism. Has anyone developed, or otherwise know of, software to record the XEvent stream and replay it from a file?? This sounds trivial, except I don't believe that the XIDs in stored events would be valid during the next execution of the program. Any solutions or guidance would be appreciated, thanks!! -Jim Becker {world} sun!athsys!jim

Software of this sort is being worked on (principally by HP, I believe) as part of the X Testing Consortium effort. The Input Synthesis extension provided in R3 is the base on which the rest of the software is being built. Under current plans, I believe the software will be released as part of the the overall X test suite, which probably won't occur until early next year at the earliest.
