I sent this awhile ago, but never got it back. Our mail system was down for awhile, so I assume this message got gobbled, anyway....... Is anyone maintaining a list of the messages??? Perhaps there should be a message_lists-request which will send a copy of the current messages to the requester each time a request is made. I'm not sure we get all of the messages from xpert as we have problems getting uucp mail from time to time and I would not want to miss out on a pertinent mailing list. As sub mailing lists are created, an index should be updated of the current lists available. This too should be available from a request server. On a similar vein, is a list of the "Subject:" lines for each message available. It would be helpful for us to be able to get these to try to collect important messages we might have missed due to uucp problems. Perhaps the xpert-request address could be expanded to accept a syntax in the message or the subject line which would allow the requester to obtain these lists or past missed messages. For example: To: xpert-request Subject: New request types add !an old familiar remove !an old familiar request message_index !subject lines of all available messages request mailing_lists !would send requester the list of mailing lists request message <###> !requests an old message (I don't know what !an appropriate syntax for the message would be) the request message <###> should be extended to the other mailing lists. I am assuming the xpert-request address is automated. -Phil ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philip E. I think I remember reading once that there was an "xpert" mailing list. Is comp.windows.x the same as the "xpert" mailing list ? How can I subscribe to the "xpert" mailing list ? What other mailing list are active for X related information and how can I subscribe to them ? Thanks in advance for the info, -Rob Kedoin UUCP: ...{philabs,motown,icus}\!mergvax\!rkxyv ARPA: rkxyv%mergvax.UUCP@uunet.uu.net BITNET: rkxyv%mergvax.UUCP@uunet.uu.net.BITNET SNAIL-mail: Linotype Company - R&D 425 Oser Avenue Hauppauge, NY 11788 VOICE: (516) 434 - 2729

What x-windows-related mailing lists are there for general subscription? xpert/comp.windows.x is the main one. There are a number of other "special interest" lists, but they are all essentially idle except for occasional "please add/delete me" and "is this list active?" messages, so I hesitate to broadcast their existance on this list Where are general x-windows issues discussed? On the xpert/comp.windows.x mailing list. There is also a list called "xtensions", that was supposed to discuss extensions, but it's been idle for a while. To what mail address should x-windows bugs be addressed (xbugs@expo.lcs.mit.edu)? Yes. Some people also cc: them to xpert/comp.windows.x, and you are welcome to do that if you think it is of general interest. Bugs sent only to xpert are in danger of falling through the cracks here at MIT, so please send them to xbugs as well.
