How will bug fixes for X11R3 be handled? The same way they have in past releases. I notice 5 or 6 bug fixes for the sun server have been posted already. Should we make these changes? What you do with fixes sent to xpert/comp.windows.x by "the public at large" is your own decision. Will the X Consortium have a set of "blessed" bug fixes? Yes. We just released some yesterday, for example. How are these to be submitted, evaluated, and distributed? MIT staff tracks bug reports sent to xbugs@expo.lcs.mit.edu, and bug reports seen elsewhere when possible. We fix the things we're responsible for in the core distribution, and try to get suppliers of specific ddx code to fix things owned by them. (Some ddx code is essentially unsupported right now.) On an occasional basis, determined by severity of the bugs and our own time constraints, we package up certain fixes and make them available on expo via anonymous ftp and the xstuff server. They generally propagate to other ftp/uucp sites. We announce the availability of these fixes on xpert/comp.windows.x as they occur. We don't make all fixes we do available to the public; timely access to all fixes and interim development is one of the benefits of being a member of the X Consortium. We do try to get out fixes to things that have people "dead in the water", etc.
