[comp.windows.x] x11r3 Xqdss on VAXStation II/GPX

converse@EXPO.LCS.MIT.EDU (Donna Converse) (11/23/88)

The release notes say to modify file sys/data/qd_data.c so that
the variable DMA_BUFSIZE is defined as 10. I made this change
(from an original value of 1024 * 3) and rebuilt the kernel, which
   does not boot.

It should be 1024 * 10

I am having a problem getting the x11r3 Xqdss up on my VAXstation
II/GPX running Ultrix v2.3. I tested it on the unmodified kernel
and it sort of works, except the system eventually hangs.

The release notes say to modify file sys/data/qd_data.c so that
the variable DMA_BUFSIZE is defined as 10. I made this change
(from an original value of 1024 * 3) and rebuilt the kernel, which
does not boot.

What's wrong?

[Pardon me for posting; Steinmetz sent me a nastygram saying there is no such
user as zirin, so I couldn't reply to Bob directly]

I suspect you should have changed (1024 * 3) to (1024 * 10) not simply to 10.
Which release notes are you referring to? Ultrix 2.2, 2.3 or X11.3? I have not
seen the note in question, and am interested. Someone at DEC mailed me a new
qd.o to fix the problem with the server reset hanging the workstation, but this
change is new to me. I will try the 10K buffer to see if it changes anything.
