The "startx" shell that comes with the R3 distribution makes reference to the posibility of having a system-wide server rc file. How does one get Xsun to recognize such a file? This equivalent of .xinitrc would be at least a little useful. The Xsun -help option mentions a "-x" option which is not explained in the Xsun man page or the Xserver man page. You've got it backwards. The server rc file is used to start the server, not for the server to read to configure itself (the latter has already been suggested for the next release). This is useful if you want to specific a bunch of command line arguments every time or to select which server to run if you have more than one type of display attached to your machine. Just create an executable shell script in /usr/lib/X11/xinit/xserverrc.
