X11 TRAINING COURSES MIT, in conjunction with Integrated Computer Solutions, will be running a session of the course "Programming the X Window System" in January. This five-day course, with lab, is a comprehensive overview of the methodology and techniques for programming the X Window System, Version 11. The course covers the use of widgets and arglists, with specific examples from the Athena and HP widget sets. It covers the use of Xlib to display text and graphics. Some additional topics include: dealing with color, using the resource manager, dealing with properties, using inter-client communications, and writing widgets. Students will write programs mixing Xlib and Xt calls. The dates of the course are January 9-13. The courses are held on the MIT campus; the hardware used will be the Vaxstation II using Project Athena's BSD4.2-based OS. There will be another session in January, probably January 17-20 (four days) and a third session in late February or early March for which reservations are also being accepted. Students should have a strong background in C and in the UNIX operating system. The class size is limited.
