[comp.windows.x] "unix:0" vs. ":0"

tom@ICASE.EDU (Tom Crockett) (12/09/88)

What is the difference between specifying

  :0 local /usr/local/bin/X11R3/X :0

and

  unix:0 local /usr/local/bin/X11R3/X :0

in xdm's Xservers file? They both seem to work, except that I've noticed that
in the latter case, xrdb defines "HOST" to be "1" in the Xresources file,
instead of being set to the name of my workstation.

Which of these is the preferred method, and why?

Thanks in advance,

Tom Crockett
