[comp.windows.x] Problems with DISPLAY

gmt@lams.UUCP (Gary Trimble) (12/20/88)

A pure novice's question:

I have been unsucessful in getting X11 on my Sun 3/260 to run (xinit)
without specifying the -display option. My copy of X11 can't seem to grok
the current setting of the DISPLAY environment variable. Instead, I get
the message "X Toolkit Error: Can't open display: unix:0". The xhost
program Can't open display either. If I use -display, all works well but I
assumed that I wouldn't have to if DISPLAY was specified. (Yes, the DISPLAY
hostname is in the X0.hosts file). Any suggestions by mail or posting would
be appreciared.
