A while ago somebody was asking for a directory browser under X11. I wrote a simple directory and file browser for X11 R3 which provides a graphical interface to list files, search files and invoke editor or other shell commands. Is there a general place or a general mechanism to deposit X applications if there is enough interest. It was developed under SUN OS 3.2 and runs also under 3.5/4.0. There might a problem on other machines because it uses the regular expression library of Sun OS. Thanks /Hans ArpaNet: schlichter.wbst@xerox.com Usenet: rochester!rocksanne|jhs

I'm new to the net so don't know the best way to make the source available, but I would like to see the code for your browser. "(thanX), the exchequer of the poor" Shakespeare, King Richard II (edited without permission)

Thanks for all the responses I got for the directory browser. I copied a compressed shar file to expo.lcs.mit.edu into the directory /contrib. The file name is xbrowser.shar.Z. I also attempted to send a copy to x-sources@wyse.com. If I did everything right then it should appear sometime later in comp.sources.x /Hans ArpaNet: schlichter.wbst@xerox.com Usenet: rochester!rocksanne|jhs

I should add one note with respect to the copyright notice as several people asked. You can modify the code and add new features. However, you should leave a notice in it which determines where the code originally came from. The copyright notice is only relevant if somebody wants to take it and sell it as a product or register it with the government. The directory browser is not a Xerox product;it is unsupported. /Hans
