We were able to successfully run X11 Release 3 from MIT under V2.3 of Ultrix with the patched sg.o kernel driver from expo, AND we are currently running DEC's version of the server (Decwindows UWS 2.0) under Ultrix V3.0FT2. Here is our problem: When we try to run MIT's X11r3 under Ultrix 3.0FT2, the mouse cursor acts crazy. It jumps around between 3 positions on the screen when the mouse is moved. It doesn't matter what acceleration/threshold is set, it still does this. I was careful to compile tldma.c (and tlinit.c just to be sure) WITHOUT -O optimization, so that the I/O to the device would not be optimized away. Any help? Thanks in advance. Brian V. Smith LBL

I've seen similar behavior when using a QDSS server (compiled under 4.3BSD) on a VAXstation 3200 (running Ultrix 3.0 FT2). The DECWindows server didn't have any problems, of course, but the newly-compiled server gave me the same sort of strange cursor motion. When I brought up real 4.3BSD on that 3200, and ran the 4.3-based Xqdss, the cursor motion was completely normal. (Some other things, notably menus under uwm, weren't completely normal, but that's another matter; is anyone else Out There running X11R3 on a 4-plane VAXstation 3200 running 4.3BSD?) I don't really have any advice to offer, but this is at least another data point. If you do find out what's going on, I'd like to know... -Steve Spoken: Steve Miller Domain: steve@mimsy.umd.edu UUCP: uunet!mimsy!steve Phone: +1-301-454-1808 USPS: UMIACS, Univ. of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742

It looks like our color Vaxstar is still running FT1, but R3 runs fine there, and on an 8-plane 3200 under FT2. We'll probably just leave our Vaxstar alone until the real product is released.
