Before you try and make everyone follow your standards, keep in mind
that, believe it or not, not everyone has access to a working nmail clone,
not everyone uses 2.10 (notes gives no info about sender except for
name and site -- no path, and more and more sites are running notes),
and not everyone has to read this at 1200 baud.
I'm sorry it takes you so long to read all this, but new sites are
being added to the net all the time, and putting up net mailers
usually comes after writing accounting programs, transfering
applications software from whatever machine the place had before
getting a UNIX machine, learning UNIX, etc. We used to have a
version of nmail, but the first time someone tried to update the
list of sites it screwed up, and no one has bothered to do anything
else with it. If I want to mail something to someone, I often
have to try and guess a working path from the USENET logical map
that Karen Shannon puts out. The more help I get from someone's
note, the better my chances of communicating with them. And if you think
you see too many notes now asking for pathnames, just wait till
people don't sign notes with pathnames.
