Several of the clients I try work against a monochrome display, but
bomb with a protocol error against a color display. In my case it's the
X11R3 Xsun running either the bwtwo or cgfour frame buffers. My guess is
that there is no special problem in the server, and these are just
sloppy clients never tested against a color server. In at least one
case its an application written against the Xtk/Xaw with little or no
direct Xlib.
I'm looking for general hints in trouble shooting these problems. Are
there some well known pitfalls to look for in the client code?
