[comp.windows.x] Problem with twm?

galvin-peter@CS.Yale.EDU (Peter Galvin) (02/17/89)

(forwarded for a friend)

We are running X11R3 (beta) with Ultrix3.0 (aka UWS??020) on DEC 3500's and
MicrovaxII/GPX both with single color screens. We are using the Xqdsg server
and the twm window manager.

We are experiencing an intermittent problem where the screen and keyboard go
blank and dead about every 24 hours. All processes are still running, but the
system can only be resuscitated by killing Xqdsg and doing a kill -1 1 (it
might be possible to kill just the window manager, I am not sure!).

It has been suggested that the problem might lie with the window manager, for
this reason we are currently running with uwm instead of twm, and we have not
(yet?) observed the problem in about three days, so it is possible that we
see a problem with twm.

Has anybody encountered any behaviour of a similar nature that might give a
better clue as to what is going on, or does anybody have any advice as to how
to determine the source of the problem?
