[comp.windows.x] Tricks and traps in the X toolkit

asente@decwrl.dec.com (Paul Asente) (02/23/89)

Okay folks...finally your chance to get back at the toolkit designers...

I'm in the process of writing a book on the toolkit. In the interest of
making the book as helpful as possible, I'd like to collect people's
experiences with trying to use the toolkit either as an application writer
or a widget writer. What did you find confusing? What mistakes did you
make? What traps did you fall into? What tricks have you figured out?

For example, one thing that people have come to me with again and again is
being unable to resize or move their shell widgets around. The problem is
they've forgotten or don't know about the XtNallowShellResize resource,
which, if false, disallows shell geometry changes.

Please mail your responses to me. I will post a summary of them all on
the net once they stop coming in.

Thanks,
