So much discussion about X-terminals lately, I thought I'd throw this in. For about 18 months, I've been running Graphon's GO-235 terminal with their X servers, under two configurations: 1) X10R4 server running on a uVAX II under BSD 4.3 Functional, but lotsa little bugs ... (This was pretty CPU Hungry) 2) (more recently) X11R3 server running on a Sun 4 under SunOS 4.0.1 (Not sure if this is really released yet ...) This works very well, with pretty good performance. The terminal is connected to one of the serial ports on the Sun, running at 38 kbaud with hardware handshaking. This provides very good performance, and seems to be quite a complete server. The server eats about 700k or 800k, and eats very little CPU. Performance with at 9600 baud is "o.k." I've encountered only two bugs: a) sometimes doesn't get clipping correct when loading a pixmap, and b) C-M and <RETURN> send only NewLine code. Performance downloading bitmaps is not-so-hot - xphoon takes a couple of minutes. Note that the server actually RUNS on the host machine ... -- Don Faulkner Building 1, Room 803 Harvard University, School of Public Health 665 Huntington Avenue Boston, MA 02115 ARPA: faulkner%jmullins@harvard.harvard.edu BITNET: faulkner@harvard Telephone: (617) 732-2167
