Over the next few weeks I will be trying to learn everything there is to know about development platforms suitable for a project which will require converting a PC based application to run in a Unix workstation environment. The application is networked based and graphically oriented. At this time I have seen only the Sun 386i demo. What I am interested in are the views and opinions from other application developers concerning equipment you are using, good features of your platform and its pitfalls, ideas concerning development on one platform for eventual use on a different platform, other comments you might think are useful. Our immediate concern is with the cost of this development platform as we are used to clone PC, AT and 386 type prices. Have any of you put together your own 386 based (remember, color X11) platforms and care to relate your trials and triumphs? Thanks in advance for your responses.
