[comp.windows.x] need better keybord emulation for xterm

sback@elbereth.rutgers.edu (Steve Back) (03/16/89)

I'm wish to use Xterm to telnet to a vax and use the EDT editor on that
vax. I'm currantly using a sun 3/60. Except for the arrow keys the the
default configuration for xterm does not send the correct function key
codes. (sf option doesn't seem to do anything to help this) The
function keys are along the top left side and the arrow keys are part
of the "keypad". To use use EDT I have to make the keyboard act as
much like a true vt100 keyboard as possible. I have tried reassign the
keys (using the example in the Xterm man page as a model.) This works
to some extent for the function keys along the top row F1-F9 but
except for the arrow keys R8 R10 R12 & R14 all the R function keys
(the right hand keypad) are ignored. It is these keys that I wish
the most to be able to reassign.

Does anyone else have a solution to this? How have others solved the
Vax dilemma? (I know, I know, I should use emacs, but there are some users
here that,do to old habits, refuse to switch to the newer editor)

Thanks
