I am creating an application environment that requires communication between widgets of a parent process and multiple children processes. From the X Intrinsics Guide I understand that "arbitrary widgets (possibly not all in the same application) can communicate with each other by means of the X Toolkit global selection mechanism," yet the appropriate manner in which to implement a communication protocol using the global selection mechanism eludes me. Could someone please better explain the selection mechanism and elaborate on an appropriate communication protocol. Example code would be especially useful. Thanks in advance.
